DevLog #16: Builder Tools, Driving, and Jet Packs

This Week at Realm

What a busy week for Realm! On Wednesday we hosted our Weekly Founders AMA with our co-founders, Matt and Joban– if you missed out on the live AMA you can hear the recording here, and don’t forget to submit your questions here before next Wednesday’s AMA!

After the AMA we joined our new partner, Alkimi Exchange on Episode #36 of Constellation’s Hypergraph Hour, discussing the future of advertising in the Metaverse. This partnership created some buzz, being picked up by news outlets ranging from Crypto Daily, Bloomberg, and Yahoo Finance. We’ve got a lot more in the development pipeline with these two partners, so stay tuned for more!

Builder Tools

We’ve got 2 big updates on builder tools this week:

  1. Automating Module Import Pipeline — Occupied Cells.

We’ve been working hard to automate functions in our builder tools to make the process of creating a Realm as intuitive and easy as possible. One key way that we’ve accomplished this is by making the platform self-aware of which cells are occupied and which are free. This is especially important when using large modules, and is typically a very labor intensive, manual process. In the video above, you can see the world scanning itself to identify which cells are occupied, which massively speeds up the process of using large modules!

2. New Type of Array Module — Screen Space Reflections

You may have noticed that the world in this video is a new style, different than anything we’ve showed off before. Unlike many other metaverses that confine their users to a particular look/style, Realm is a place where everyone’s creative inspiration can live! We are incredibly excited to see the diverse array of creative styles that our community will implement in Realm.

Here you can see some upgrades we’ve made to our array modules that enable advanced reflections. This one is out of this world, hopefully it gets your creative juices flowing and inspires your future realms!

Driving Updates

We’ve been refining our racing engine to make the cars more responsive to both the player controls and the physical environment. This involves improvements to our physics engine and improvements on our mobile control schemes and field of view (FOV).

The next item on the agenda for our racing realm is to build a free-driving area for multiple players to burn rubber in — we can’t wait to get this into the hands of testers to enjoy! Soon, we will be integrating our high-end graphics as you can see below!

Jet Packs

At Realm we are always thinking about exciting ways for players to explore the universe. Here you can see the first sketches of the GraviTex 3000 — owners of this item will be able to fly freely around the metaverse and experience realms from a completely new perspective. These utility items will be available as quest rewards, loot box prizes and in the marketplace. There will be many enhancements and upgrades that realm explorers can unlock to open up new experiences in the Metaverse.

World Events

Our hearts go out to our brothers and sisters in Ukraine who find themselves in the line of fire. There are no excuses for the deplorable and destructive acts being carried out against members of our human family. We can only hope that as we continue to come together as a global community, we can find ways to support one another through these trying times, and build a better world, together.

About Realm

Realm is a mobile-first, play-to-earn, social impact driven Metaverse that allows gamers, players and artists to create their own personalized NFT microverse. Creators can bring unique music, art, and games into their realms. Whole living worlds can be minted as an ERC-1155 NFT and traded on the OpenSea Marketplace. Alternatively, players can discover, trade, collect and view NFTs in the environments and experiences their creators imagined.
