Welcome to Devlog 47!
This week saw some big events in the Realm universe, from Don’t Fall launch to the Azadi tower appearing in the Metropolis in a show of solidarity for Women’s rights in Iran and across the globe. If you haven’t checked it out here is a video and you can go and explore for yourself in the Metropolis right now! We recommend making a female avatar and sharing a selfie from the tower to raise awareness.
Don’t Fall Launch
This week saw the launch of ‘Don’t Fall’ — Realm’s platform royale gametype — to great success. It’s been awesome to see the community gather in the lobby and get competitive, with times far exceeding the expectations of the team. With a weekly prize of $1000 we are committed to keeping Don’t Fall an exciting and challenging gametype for the whole community. The roadmap for the gametype includes:
- New Courses: ‘Pirates Cove’ is in the final stages of development!
- Builder Courses: Within the next fortnite builders can create their own courses for the community of racers to vote on. The courses that are selected will receive $REALM rewards and the map will be added to the rotation!
- Expanded prize-pools: We understand that not everyone can match the reactions and speed of the frontrunners, so we will be reviewing the prize pool and expanding the prizes to ensure that everyone has a chance to benefit.
Push Notifications
We also quietly rolled out a major update to the platform — Push Notifications! The team wanted to make sure that we implemented this feature in the best way possible since all too often applications overuse notifications and they become annoying.
In the app update at the start of the week Realm will send notifications for a ton of actions inside the metaverse including when another user follows you, when a new gametype launches, or when a new event starts. This feature is super important for maintaining the longevity of the ecosystem; reminding users when there are actions to complete or alerting them to new and exciting developments in the metaverse.
See below for a ‘Following’ notification when another user follows your profile:
Timeline Filters
Since the launch of the beta we’ve been working on how the timeline helps people discover the content they’re most interested in. As our awesome community started building more and more, we realised that since builder realms were automatically appearing at the top of the feed, a lot of players had never even got the chance to explore our very own Realms!
As a result we’ve implemented a brand new filtering system for the timeline that filters the content for Realm Originals, User Realms, and ‘All’. This also paves the way for some more interesting features that are coming soon, such as ‘selfies’ which will appear in a separate section.
We’ve also been working on the overall feel of the social app, with animations such as scrolling and transitions feeling much smoother as well as sticky headers for the filters. It’s these small details that take time to get right and are almost imperceptible, but add a great deal to the polished feel of the final product.
These timeline and animation enhancements are available in the latest Realm app update, which hit the stores this week — make sure to update!
