A Jetpack for sale by another plahyer in the Marketplace

Welcome to the 49th edition of the Realm devlogs!

We have a few cool updates for you this week, not least that Realm made it to the 2022 Godot Showreel! You can check it out here along with some other nice games being built by the excellent Godot community. We think that Realm represents the pinnacle of Godot development and are proud to have pushed the boundaries so far with our product.

As the winter months draw in we’ve had a few team members feeling under the weather and are wishing any of you out there who have been unwell a speedy recovery as well.

As usual, you can catch the Founders AMA here for an update on the thought processes behind the next steps for Realm.

Now to the dev updates:

Marketplace Sneak-Peek!

At long last, here is a preview of the Realm marketplace, with some awesome features on display. As we discussed on the AMA this week all the core functionality is complete and battle tested, with just some minor UX improvements to be completed before launch!

The demo starts showing a user viewing their items that they have collected in the metaverse, some of which are already on-chain and some of which are in-game items for now.

They then choose their Iron Nuggets and decide to mint them both at once. Once they mint their items they navigate to their inventory, and we can see that the items are now not within the ‘Not Minted’ section and have entered the ‘Minted’ on-chain section — very cool.

Now the user decides that they could do with some extra cash and go to sell their Iron — no worries, they simply navigate to the items, select how many they wish to sell (they now hold 4 on-chain) and set the price for each one. After a couple of transactions, they are available for purchase by other users!

Notice that the price to sell an item is set in USD; This is one of greatest achievements in this unique hybrid NFT marketplace, and allows sellers to select the payment tokens they will accept for their items, and then choose an equivalent USD value to receive for the item. We then use Price Oracles to calculate the amount of that token that will be required at the time of purchase!

Afterwards, we demonstrate a more vanilla marketplace flow, with a user browsing items on sale from Realm and from other players, and then deciding they fancy a Gold Nugget for the equivalent value of $3.2 USD. Upon viewing the item detail and pressing ‘Buy’, they select the token they wish to pay with from the list of tokens the seller is happy to receive payment in. In this case, ‘REALM’ and ‘TST’ (a dummy token) are the allowed methods of payment. After confirming the relevant transactions, the item is purchased and enters the users’ inventory.

They then decide to flip it for $5 of REALM, and immediately set it on sale in a few clicks — super smooth!

All of this is of course fully compatible with OpenSea standards, and you can also sell any of your Polygon NFTs on our marketplace, not just ones from Realm. We cant wait to deploy this, and have been cooking up some rare and exotic items that will be for sale at launch.

Integrated Tutorials

We’ve been doing some analysis on the tutorial sequence and decided it would be an important improvement to integrate this into whatever Realm the user first chooses to visit, thereby providing less friction. We have therefore shortened the sequence and added a ‘skip’ button, and it will load into whatever Realm the user first chooses to enter! We think this will help reduce drop-offs and be a more engaging experience.

We will also be expanding the tutorial system so that various actions are explained fully as a user explores further, for instance meeting an NPC, Collecting an Item and entering a race.
