Welcome to Devlog #82 — read on for the lowdown on the cool new features we’ve been working on at Realm, as well as an awesome tutorial to get you in the swing of building in time for the upcoming Creator Weeklies that will be launching soon!
As usual you can catch the Founders AMA here for an insight into the minds behind the platform.
Now, lets check out some dev:
The long awaited custom matches functionality is nearly ready to release! We’re super excited about this as it gives creators way more freedom to create custom matchmaking gametypes.
The first iteration is to create platforming challenges that are fully matchmaking enabled and allow players to race to the finish against each other. Builders can add the start and end of the course and as many checkpoints as they like so get ready for some super creative challenges being built by the community! Check out how easy it is to create a simple course and enter it via matchmaking below:
Next we will be enabling this for racing, with a whole set of racetrack modules to create courses. This will take a bit of work however, since racetracks need to be considerably larger than the current max Realm size — we’re working on an elegant solution that allows racetracks to extend beyond the current limits in terms of world sizes.
Realm Academy Ep 8: Moving Platforms!
This episode of Realm Academy from Community Builder Ambassador Arty is a great one! Here we dive into the skill of adding moving platforms to your realm to give it variety and challenge.
Arty takes you through a ton of tricks to make sure your platforms behave exactly as you would like, including direction, timing and placement. Awesome stuff Arty — we can’t wait to see what you’ve build, and again this will come in handy for the weekly Creator Champion Rewards dropping soon.
