Cross-Chain Technology and $REALM
Although the science and language behind it is infinitely complex, the idea is very simple: cross-chain technology allows the seamless transmission of value, data and information between different blockchain networks. It is, in essence, future-proofing blockchain.
Why is this important? Take an example from Realm. Once you have created your NFT, NFTix or genetically unique pet, and demand for your work has reached Beeple levels of hype and interest, naturally you will want access to cross-chain viewing, trading and transaction options.
$REALM is a cross-chain token which functions as the primary utility token within the Realm Metaverse. $REALM is an ERC-20 token which will be available on Reef Chain and Polygon, with more chains coming soon. Players can use one click bridges with low transaction costs to move their $REALM between chains.
Quick and Painless Cross-Chain Trading On Realm
Building a functional and accessible NFT Metaverse across multiple chains was always at the forefront of our thinking. We’re thrilled our collaborations and integrations permit us to realise that dream.
Realm is founded on the Ethereum Ecosystem, which is awesome because that is where most NFTs exist. With Ethereum 2.0 Serenity and the blockchain’s transition away from a Proof-of-Work (POW) consensus mechanism to Proof-of-Stake (POS) getting tantalizingly closer, Ethereum will be the route the majority will take in the future.
Until Serenity is up and running, Realm uses Polygon (Matic) to optimize this Ethereum experience. This is coupled with integration of the Reef Chain to bridge to the wider Polkadot ecosystem. Reef Chain is built on Substrate and, like Polkadot, has high throughput (how fast a blockchain processes transactions, generally measured in transactions per second (TPS), advanced security, and low transaction costs (good-bye gas fees!).
Realm is Mobile First
As Realm expands and the technology advancements keep pace with the imagination of our creators and developers, we wanted a roadmap which will start with Mobile, and include VR in the months and years ahead. Cross platform intertwined with our cross-chain fundamentals.
The majority of internet traffic comes from mobile devices, and the ability of mobile technologies like augmented reality blurring the lines between the physical and digital, drove Realm’s mobile first strategy. We believe people are ready and willing to dabble with AR more than strapping a screen to their face in VR, and we’re going to test that theory.
Our incredible mobile UX experience will hasten widespread adoption and have many more creators, brands, gamers and NFT artists building, exploring, and trading individual Metaverses. By harnessing the power and availability of mobile, the Realm economy and ecosystem will blossom as quickly and seamlessly as possible. This, like an NFT opera in a personal Metaverse, is music to our ears.
But never fear desktop users, there will be a web version launched simultaneously, allowing our less-mobile users to explore, build and experience the Realm universe.
Finally, using embeddable frames, creators, galleries, brands and NFT influencers will be able to showcase their realms in their own eco-systems, with Realm as the central platform for blockchain based spaces and interaction.
The VR Roadmap
With early adoption, Realm’s community soaring and confidence high, our road map will take a detour to the land of VR. In 2021 VR headsets are the reserve of gamers and experimentation. This will change. Digital AR platforms such as Realm and the blockchain games which will come to populate the internet will diversify the audience of VR. We will be ready.
The Realm engine will allow for 3D modelling and space manipulation through a suite of VR tools and VR support via OpenVR. Oculus and Vive players will also be able to interact via browsers.
